At The "Golden Circle" Stockholm (Volume One) = ゴールデン・サークルのオーネット・コールマン(第1集) by The Ornette Coleman Trio.

Captured live over two nights in December 1965, this Japanese pressing brings Ornette Coleman's revolutionary trio into your listening room with all the immediacy of a room full of listeners in Stockholm. Recorded at the Golden Circle, or Gyllene Cirkeln, on December 3rd and 4th, this first volume documents a period when Coleman was reshaping the very grammar of jazz, and it does so with the intimacy that only a small club setting can deliver.

The lineup here is spare and combustible. Coleman handles the alto saxophone, his tone unmistakable and searching, while David Izenzon anchors the group on bass and Charles Moffett drives it forward on drums. Every composition on the record was written by Coleman himself, so what you hear is a unified artistic vision, from the restless motion of "Faces And Places" and "European Echoes" on the first side to the contrasting moods of "Dee Dee" and "Dawn" on the second.

This is Blue Note history filtered through the exacting standards of Japanese manufacturing. Pressed and distributed by King Record Co., Ltd. in Japan under authorization, the record carries the Blue Note Records lineage proudly, with the label noting its status as a division of the United Artists Music And Records Group. The publishing credit to Phrase Text Music Publ. Co. and the ℗ 1977 date on the labels round out the provenance for collectors who care about the details.

The catalogue history is layered in the way that dedicated Blue Note followers appreciate. The number GXF 3018 appears on the back cover, the labels, and the insert, while the obi carries the hyphenated GXF-3018. The original Blue Note designation BST 84224 remains printed on the labels, tying this issue directly back to its source. The runouts are stamped, a small but telling mark of the pressing's character.

The packaging reflects the golden age of Blue Note artistry. Reid Miles, the designer responsible for so much of the label's iconic visual identity, is credited with the cover design, and the cover photograph comes from Francis Wolff, the co-founder whose images defined the Blue Note look. This edition was issued with a single-sided liner notes and credits insert in Japanese, with liner notes contributed by Kazutomi Aoki and Ludvig Rasmusson, along with a double-sided Blue Note discography insert for those who like to explore the catalogue further.

For anyone drawn to Coleman's free-thinking approach, or to the storied craftsmanship of Japanese Blue Note issues, this volume offers both the music and the object in equal measure. It is a document of a pivotal moment, presented with care and built to be played.
