Come Away With Me by Norah Jones.
Norah Jones arrived like a hush in a noisy room, and this 20th Anniversary Edition of "Come Away With Me" gives that quiet its full measure of space. Originally released on Blue Note in 2002, the album made its name on the strength of Jones at the piano, her voice unhurried and close, gliding from the smoky opener "Don't Know Why" through the gentle sway of the title track and the tender closer "The Nearness Of You." It remains a record built for late evenings and low light, a blues and jazz sensibility folded into something intimate and enduring.
The music was captured at Sorcerer Sound in New York City and Allaire Studios in Shokan, New York, then mixed at Sear Sound and mastered at Sterling Sound. This anniversary pressing carries lacquers cut by Joe Nino-Hernes, with mastering by Ted Jensen, and it revisits the original production work of Arif Mardin alongside Jay Newland and Norah Jones herself. Eli Wolf produced the 20th Anniversary Edition, returning to the source of a record that has only deepened with time.
Behind Jones stands a remarkable cast of players. Guitarists Bill Frisell, Adam Levy, Adam Rogers, Jesse Harris, and Kevin Breit lend their voices across the sessions, while Brian Blade and Dan Rieser handle drums and Kenny Wollesen adds his own textures. Lee Alexander and Tony Scherr anchor the bottom end, Jenny Scheinman brings her violin, and Rob Burger and Sam Yahel color the arrangements with keys and organ. The result is warm, conversational ensemble playing that never crowds the singer at its center.
Songs like "Cold Cold Heart," "Feelin' The Same Way," "Shoot The Moon," and "Turn Me On" show the album's easy movement between standards, originals, and country-tinged ballads, while "Lonestar," "Painter Song," and "Nightingale" round out a second side that drifts by like a long, slow exhale. Jones contributed her own liner notes, adding a personal thread to a package designed with real care.
This edition comes housed in a gatefold jacket with lyrics and credits, and it includes a printed inner sleeve. Photography by Joanne Savio and art direction from Vartan and Jessica Novod-Berenblat frame the music in fittingly understated style. It carries Blue Note logos on the jacket back, spine, and labels, with UMe on the back; ℗ 2002, © 2022 UMG Recordings, Inc.
A note for collectors: this title began as a Target exclusive with a hype sticker and an included lithograph. On March 22, 2023, that exclusivity ended and copies began appearing in independent shops without the Target sticker, some bearing a different hype sticker that incorrectly described the record as a limited edition colored vinyl.
