That delay only deepens its mystique: here is music from Shorter's mid-sixties peak, composed almost entirely by the saxophonist himself, surfacing years after the fact and now restored for a new generation on this 2019 Blue Note reissue.

The playing reflects the exploratory spirit of the era. Shorter's tenor is probing and lyrical, framed by a rhythm section of remarkable sensitivity. Herbie Hancock brings harmonic depth and restless invention on piano, while Cecil McBee's bass anchors the proceedings with a warm, grounded pulse. Joe Chambers, one of the most inventive drummers of his generation, shades the music with color and forward motion rather than mere timekeeping. Together they turn Shorter's compositions into something searching and conversational.

For the collector, this pressing is a genuine object of desire. Mastered from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI, it delivers the full fidelity of Van Gelder's recording. Housed in deluxe gatefold packaging with Michael Cuscuna's liner notes and Francis Wolff's photography, it honors the Blue Note legacy in both sound and presentation.

Pressing Details:
Track Listing:
A1.
