Last Time Around - Live At Legends by Buddy Guy.

There are certain nights in a musician's life when everything falls into place, and this record captures two of them. Recorded live on March 22 and 23, 1993, at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago, "Last Time Around - Live At Legends" documents Buddy Guy on his home turf, in the very club that bears his name. There is no substitute for the electricity of a room full of people who came to hear the blues told plain, and that atmosphere runs through every groove here.

What makes this set so special is the reunion at its heart. Buddy Guy and Junior Wells were one of the most storied partnerships the Chicago blues ever produced, and here they share the stage once more, Guy on acoustic guitar and vocals, Wells adding his unmistakable harmonica and voice. The two also share production credit, shaping the sound of these performances from the inside out, which lends the whole record an intimacy that feels less like a concert document and more like an invitation into their world.

The track listing reads like a walk through the deep well of the blues these two men helped define. Side A opens with "Seeds Of Reed" before moving through "That's All Right," the medley of "She's All Right / Still A Fool," the Muddy Waters staple "Hoochie Coochie Man," and a reading of "What I'd Say (It's All Right)." It is a first half that balances the traditional with the personal, the familiar with the surprising.

Side B keeps the momentum going with "Key To The Highway" and "I've Been There," then leans into the pairings that live music does so well: "Feelin' Good / What I'd Say" and "Oh Baby / You Better Watch Yourself." The set closes with "Hoodoo Man Blues," a fitting nod that ties this performance back to the roots Guy and Wells shared for decades. Hearing these songs in a live setting, with the acoustic guitar and harmonica trading space, gives them a warmth that studio takes rarely reach.

The record was engineered by Timothy Powell, edited by Chaz Harper, mixed by Tim Donovan, and mastered by Tom Coyne, with photography by Paul Natkin and art direction and design by Nick Gamma. That care behind the scenes ensures the room, the players, and the moment all come through with clarity.

Limited to just 1000 copies, this is a pressing made for listeners who want the real thing: two masters of the form, playing live in the house that Buddy built. Add it to your collection before it disappears.
