That's What Happened 1982-1985 (The Bootleg Series, Vol. 7) by Miles Davis.

Miles Davis at his creative peak, pushing musicians to explore what they don't know.

Musical Analysis:
Miles Davis leads with distinctive artistry, creating intricate interplay between musicians. The harmonic progressions and rhythm section showcase the evolution of jazz with spontaneous brilliance.

Album Story:
Recorded during Miles Davis's Columbia Records comeback period in the early 1980s, "That's What Happened" captures the trumpet legend exploring electronic funk-fusion textures with a rotating cast of New York's finest session players. At Power Station Studios in Manhattan, Davis worked closely with producer Teo Macero to blend synthesizers and drum machines with his signature muted trumpet style, while guitarist John Scofield and bassist Marcus Miller provided the rhythmic foundation. These previously unreleased tracks showcase Davis at a fascinating crossroads, embracing modern production techniques while maintaining the adventurous spirit that defined his earlier work. The sessions marked one of Davis's final collaborations with Macero, his longtime producer at Columbia.
