Village by Jacob Banks.

Few contemporary voices carry the weight of both jazz phrasing and blues confession quite like Jacob Banks, and "Village" is the album that gathers all of it into one sweeping statement. Spread across two sides and housed in a full gatefold sleeve, this pressing invites you to sit with the record the way it was meant to be heard, one deliberate side at a time, the artwork opening out around you as the music plays.

Side A moves with a smoky, unhurried assurance. It opens on "Chainsmoking" before easing through "Love Ain't Enough" and the atmospheric pull of "Mexico," then lifts into "Prosecco" and the communal warmth of "Kumbaya." By the time "Slow Up" and "Grown Up" close the side, you have the full emotional arc of a songwriter who treats vulnerability as its own kind of strength.

Side B carries that momentum forward across seven tracks, beginning with the steady drive of "Keeps Me Going" and the tender plea of "Be Good To Me." From the reflective ache of "Nostalgia" and "Caroline" through "Witness" and "Unknown (To You)," the second half deepens the mood, finally settling into the quiet resolve of "Peace Of Mind." It is a closing note that rewards the listener who stays through to the end of the record.

Much of what makes this edition special sits in the physical object itself. The gatefold presentation is anchored by an original painting from Alex Gardner, with photography by Grace Rivera bringing an additional layer of texture to the package. Art direction and creative direction come from Samm McAlear, whose design work, alongside that of Elijah Justice, gives the sleeve its considered, cohesive feel.

Behind the scenes, "Village" reflects the effort of a broad creative team. A&R duties were shared among Carlos Cancela, Daniel "Wermser" Werman, Sam Riback, Vanessa Angiuli, and Marta Navas, while management was guided by Brandon Silverstein, Jay Cao, and Jordan Stein. Kam Sangha served as production manager, with marketing steered by Greg Carr, Nima Khalilian, and Phil Fox, and business and legal matters handled by Jasmine Rasool, Edward Shapiro, and Nneka Witter.

Pressed and made in the EU, this is a record that suits the way we like to listen here at Miles Waxey; soulful, patient, and built for repeat plays. Whether you are drawn in by Banks's blues-steeped delivery or by the collectible presentation of the gatefold and its original artwork, "Village" earns its place on the shelf and, more importantly, on the turntable.
