The album compiled sessions recorded between May 1952 and April 1953, and featured a young Jackie McLean on alto saxophone who was just days shy of his 21st birthday during his first Blue Note session. The sessions also included pianist Gil Coggins, who would leave music permanently not long afterward to pursue a career in real estate.
